DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

Agriculture is the art and science of cultivating the soil, growing crops and raising livestock. Food is the most basic human need and it comes from agriculture, over the last century and a half, many of the world’s political leaders have recognized what India’s Jawaharlal Nehru did, that “most things except agriculture can wait.”  Agriculture isn’t just about farming, it has an enormous range of career opportunities, including in plant sciences, technology, the food sector and more. If you really want to know real power of Agriculture then take a step forward and study about it.

India is known as "Land of Villages". Near about 67% of India's population live in villages. The occupation of villagers is agriculture. Agriculture plays a crucial role in the Indian economy. Almost 60% of the Indian workforce is involved in agriculture, but that has not resulted in substantial growth of the sector. In fact, its contribution to the Gross Domestic Production (GDP) has dwindled to less than 25%. It is time that students explore this largely unknown arena.

A student who has completed B.Sc and M.Sc in Agriculture will get a well-paying job right after graduation. Agriculture giants such as ITC, Monsanto and Cargill, Which are beginning to established their presence in commercial farming as well as small farmer-led production initiative, are on the lookout for young executives to handle extension services. Since agriculture is a priority area in achieving financial inclusion, many insurance companies and bank also recruit agriculture graduates.
